It's a great idea, but since it's gained popularity so many people are doing it and that's the reason so many social networking sites are cracking down on it.
If you do find a networking site to do this on though, keep that site separated from your social blogging site. This way there's no conflict of interest, and your friends and family who read your blog for fun don't get turned off by it.

Not only do you have to watch the site you also have to watch what the affiliate terms say. I know the majority of my affiliates specifically say posting to forums, myspace, facebook etc is STRICTLY PROHIBITED and immediate grounds for removal. I also heard that MySpace is cracking down on this.

Affiliate marketing is my biggest income earner. Another thing to add is that one must have an understanding that affiliate marketing is about presell. It's about giving them the best possible option for a transaction an not really thinking about them as your money maker.

I never thought about the idea of creating an affiliate marketing page. I agree with kanada, it can damage our reputation among our friends and families. People read our blog to have fun, they don't wanna see annoying ads, banner, affiliate link or whatsoever. I would never create an affiliate page in my site because of this reason.

Whilst this can be an effective way of making money, I think it can damage your reputation amongst friends. They don't want you peddling products to them and will most likely end up deleting you and/or just ignoring what you have to say. Plus, it's not always adherent to the Terms of Service on these sites.

It's usually not a good idea to try to advertise directly on Facebook or Myspace. It's far better to have your own blog hosted on your own website. You can post your affiliate products on the blog and then link to that from your social networking pages. This way you won't risk losing your accounts.

I've tried affiliate marketing before but it really doesn't make that much extra cash for me. Most of the advertisers usually require that people you direct to their site from yours actually buy something before you get a commission(which makes sense)but a lot of the time the commission you get won't be really worth your time. Except if you have a site that has a high volume of traffic, you might not be gaining much from affiliate marketing

I personally have a blog. But i do not do affiliate marketing. So i could not understand the problem that people will get banned if they hold their account and use it in facebook. I will try to have a hands on experience if somebody could help me in doing that

Dartz,
I know what you are saying. This has something to do on their advertisement area wherein you will have to pay for something to get it in front of millions of people. But the thing is that you need to have a huge sum of money just to get your site out there. This is the reason why I resort to such a thing.

While myspace and facebook are good places to get more exposure to the affiliate pages, it's worth remembering that the affiliate products don't directly compete with any product that the site itself is promoting to it's members. Showing the RSS feeds of your blog on the pages to get more eyeballs for your blog and then directing them to an uncluttered landing page with the affiliate product seems a good idea to me.
