SEO is important - you can have a great website with excellent content but if the search engines never find it then nobody else will, and you are wasting your time. But if you design your website just to attract the search engines without providing great, readable and useful content (i.e. stuffing the page with keywords and designing it just for Google's bots) then all those surfers you attract will be hitting the back button in a matter of seconds. I think you’ve hit the nail right on the head.
