“Web development” is a broad, general term that relates to any activities that have to do with the development of a website for an intranet or for the World Wide Web. Website development is a challenging process, in that it requires a broad understanding of a variety of different tools, technologies, standards and concepts in order to bring it all together using an effective web system. Web development is actually a fascinating activity that is constantly evolving as the market changes. Web development is not something that you can simply jump right into, but because it is becoming such a prosperous industry, it is well worth exploring anyway.
Website development can range from the simple development of a single static page constructed from plain text, to much more complex website based internet applications, social networking services and electronic businesses. This can include the development of e-commerce business websites, website design, the development of website content, server side or client side programming and the configuration of a web server. The growth of the web development industry is being pushed in a large part by oversized businesses that are looking to sell services and products to their customers, looking to automate the workflow of their business. As more business are realizing how convenient and useful web-based software actually is, the more popular web development is becoming. Not only is web development convenient, but it is also extremely flexible, and useful in many different ways. Web development can also be a cost effective way to find solutions to important ecommerce related problems.
The web development aspect of a website is becoming more important than the web design aspect, because of the factors and facets of a website that deal with the development rather than the visual design of the way the website functions. For example, usability and maneuverability of a website are web development factors, and are not contributed to by the design portion of the project. Web design has more to do with the visual aspects of the website, and while visual appeal is important, if visitors cannot navigate your website and cannot find the information and the solutions that they are looking for, the visual appeal of the website will mean nothing because they will be gone before they ever pay attention to it.
Website development professionals can focus more on the business goals of a client, rather than the design and visual appeal goals, which should be secondary anyway. Web development professionals should cater the development of a website not only to the goals of the client, but also to the needs of the visitors that will be targeted. Website development involves implementing usability features, easy navigation and maneuverability, and features like a site map that make it easier for visitors to find what they are looking for. A website that is developed poorly will not meet the needs of clients, customers and visitors and therefore will not be effective, no matter how visually appealing it may be. Images, flash elements and other visual features of the website only go so far, and the web development is where the importance truly lies in web design.

Its true that when developing web pages, more concentration must be given to the design. A developer must be able to foresee the problems and difficulties faced by the customer. Not everyone will accept the rules but there are some standard rules he must follow it. More important is that the project should accommodate changes in the future.
